April 2023

"Automate, optimize and transform" are the three key pillars that encompass all the technological innovations in this Release 23.

We can divide them into 5 different categories:

JDE R23 (5)-2
JDE R23 (2)-2
JDE R23 (4)-2
JDE R23-2
JDE R23 (3)-2

What are the improvements?

1. Digital Transformation

JDE R23 (8)

1.1 Text Attachment API Enhancements

This feature provides enhanced control over how attached text files are added, updated, and retrieved using the REST APIs of the Application Interface Services (AIS), for example:

  • To check whether an uploaded attached text file replaces, it is added to the last line, or to a new line of an existing attached text file.
  • To check whether an attached text file is uploaded or downloaded, including its HTML tags or as plain text with HTML tags removed.

1.2 Exclude Orchestrations from OpenAPI Document

This feature allows orchestrations to be marked as "private", excluding them from the detectable list of available orchestrations in OpenAPI 2.0 and Swagger documents.

1.3 Define Inputs for a Scheduled Orchestration

Orchestrations can be configured with default inputs; however, sometimes the inputs that are appropriate for a scheduled orchestration may be different. This innovation allows defining a set of inputs that are associated with scheduled executions of an orchestration.

1.4 User Modifications to the Orchestrator OpenAPI Document

Orchestrator automatically generates the OpenAPI document from the internal specifications of orchestration objects; however, occasionally customers need to edit that OpenAPI document to reflect the modifications they have made. This feature provides an editing window that allows the user to manually modify the automatically generated OpenAPI document.

1.5 Logging and Monitoring of AIS REST API Requests and Responses

This innovation enables the logging and monitoring of AIS REST API requests, similar to the logging and monitoring of orchestrations and notifications in Orchestrator Monitor.

1.6 Nested Logic Extensions

This feature allows you to create logic extensions that call other logic extensions, enabling a common pattern in programming where code snippets are designed as reusable objects.

1.7 Rich Formatting of Text Attachments in Orchestrator Studio

This feature enhances Orchestrator Studio with an editor for adding rich formatting to text attachments. The body of the text attachment can contain rich formatting text with variables, images, and tables, providing a template for creating richly formatted text attachments. Optionally, the designer can choose to create the text attachment as plain text.

2. User Experience

JDE R23 (2)

2.1 Import Excel Data Containing Formulas, Functions, and Cell Formatting

This innovation allows users to import Excel data, even if the cell values are derived from formulas, functions, or cell formatting in Excel.

2.2 Support for Grid Data Export and Import with Cloud-Based Productivity Tools

This feature expands the import and export capabilities of grids to users who use Microsoft Excel as part of Microsoft 365 cloud-based applications, and store those files in cloud-based SharePoint storage.

2.3 Form Control Extensions

This feature enhances logic extensions with the ability to act on the properties of form controls, such as showing, hiding, enabling, disabling, or changing the color of a field. For example, with form control extensions, you can determine the value that a user has entered in a field and, based on that value, conditionally enable, disable, or highlight a different control.

2.4 Enable or Disable Fields in Form Extensions

This feature enhances form extensions by giving you the ability to enable or disable fields in a form. For example, you can modify a request form to disable certain input fields because you intend to replace manual user input with automated input from an orchestration or a logic extension.

2.5 Pass the Application Version from a Form Extension to an Orchestration or Logic Extension

This enhancement allows the designer to assign the application version as an input to an orchestration or a logic extension when initiated from a form extension, enabling alternative processing based on the runtime value of the version.

2.6 File Selector for Orchestrations Launched from a Form Extension

This feature enhances the capabilities of form extensions by providing a file selector for end users to input file inputs to orchestrations initiated from form extensions. If the orchestration returns a file as output, this feature also allows the end user to download that file to their browser's download location.

2.7 Oracle Guided Learning Integration with JD Edwards

Oracle Guided Learning (OGL) is a cloud-based enterprise learning platform. Customers can now integrate OGL with JD Edwards to provide customized, step-by-step, and contextual visualizations that empower users to be self-sufficient as they navigate through business processes. This helps improve user productivity and efficiency, while driving desired behavior through an enhanced user experience. It accelerates user onboarding and process adoption.

3. System Automation

JDE R23 (6)

3.1 JDE Update Manager – Update Credit for ESUs

This new feature makes application maintenance easier to stay up-to-date with security updates, error corrections, and new functionalities. From this version of Tools, when installing an Application Update (UN), its included ESUs (Electronic Software Updates) will be automatically registered in the system and dependencies and requirements for future updates can be validated without the need to resolve them manually.

3.2 JDE Update Manager – UBE Log from Software Updates

Improvement of JDE Update Manager that allows direct access to the log files generated during the installation of an ESU (Electronic Software Update) or ASU (Application Software Update) in the system. This new functionality makes it easier to analyze and debug errors in case any issues occur during the process

3.3 Package Build - Object Repository Repair

New functionality that allows detection and automatic repair of invalid objects in the database repository during package compilation, avoiding compilation errors and manual corrections.

3.4 Server Manager - Centralized Configuration for AIS Servers

The Server Manager administration console can now configure multiple EnterpriseOne AIS instances collectively and centrally, allowing an administrator to save time during installation and maintenance tasks, while minimizing the potential for unintentional manual errors.

4. Security

JDE R23 (10)

4.1 TLS Support for Enterprise Server to Database Communication

Starting from this Tools version, the communication between the Enterprise Server and the Database is more secure as it uses TLS encryption. Additionally, communication through ODBC connections between the Enterprise Server, development clients, and Deployment Server is done over SSL. This enhances the security of communications between JDE instances, preventing risks and external attacks with SQL code injection.

4.2 Enhanced Scheduler Password Encryption

The Scheduler application is now more secure. This functionality enhances the level of encryption in JDE EnterpriseOne by using and storing the password of the user who runs processes through the Scheduler.

5. Platform

JDE R23 (4)

5.1 Platform certifications

The following third-party applications have been certified on this version of JDE EnterpriseOne Tools:

  • Microsoft Office 365 for grid export/import

  • Microsoft Edge Chromium 110

  • Google Chrome 110

  • Apple iOS 16

  • Apple MacOS Ventura 13.2

  • Microsoft ODBC Driver 18 for Microsoft SQL Server

  • IBM iSeries 7.5
